  4. Q1: What's so good about version 2 compare to version 1?

  15. Q1: What's so good about version 2 compare to version 1?

  17. A:  Version 2 uses a new timer-sync technique for near-perfect timing.
  18.     Compare it to any other MIDI player; nothing comes close, and
  19.     certainly nothing that has ever played on OS/2.  The playback is
  20.     smooth from start to finish, all in perfect time.  Other features
  21.     have been added, too, like 32 channel support (w/ two MPUs).

  23.     It's recommended that tmidi 2.0 or later be used when using
  24.     Paradise 1.7 or later.  Previous versions of tMidi can be used, but
  25.     the new timer method will not be used.

  28. Q2: Do I have to remove any drivers from config.sys, or uninstall
  29.     anything?

  31. A:  No.  Paradise doesn't care about other drivers.  If you ever
  32.     want to uninstall Paradise, just REM it out of your config.sys.

  35. Q3: I don't hear anything from my -p2: MPU port?

  37. A:  Make sure that the output is live:  Check for line out levels,
  38.     or if you are routing the -p2: into another soundcard, make sure
  39.     that that soundcard has its line in level up, and that any
  40.     connect switch is also live.

  43. Q4: How can I get a feature/request added?

  45. A:  Register, then convince me why it should be added.  If it passes
  46.     my hit list, it may be added in the future.

  49. Q5: For how long is my registration valid?

  51. A:  At least through the current version, so any 2.xx license is valid
  52.     for all 2.xx version levels.

  55. Q6: How can I use tmidi with Netscape's Navigator to audition/play/save MIDI
  56.     files I find on the web?

  58. A:  See tmidigm.cmd and follow the procedure there.

  61. Q7: How can I use a keyboard as a controller for MPU soundcards?

  63. A:  Use the -kb: switch.

  66. Q8: Can I play a SMF file and also the keyboard at the same time?

  68. A:  Yes.  You may have a volume mismatch (SMF plays to loud, for instance)
  69.     but you could use a second output port (see the -kb: switch) and then
  70.     control the volume levels through the aMixer (see www.40th.com for
  71.     aMixer).  There are other methods to match volumes, but using two
  72.     separate MPUs is the simplest (where aMixer is available).  You may also
  73.     want to make sure the channel you assign to the output is not otherwise
  74.     used by the playing SMF (for example, use channel 16).

  79. A:  You may need to initialize your MPU by running one of the ??_on.mid files
  80.     located in the mids\ directory included in this package before your first
  81.     use.
